Make Your Business EMV-Ready Today to Avoid Liability

Are You EMV-Ready?

On October 1st, 2015, the liability for fraudulent credit card transactions was shifted from the card-issuing bank, to the merchant processing the transaction. What this means for you is that if someone pays for a transaction with a fraudulent or counterfeit credit card at your business, and you are not EMV compliant, you will be responsible for all charges. Fortunately, there is an easy way to avoid needless costs.

Even though 25 percent of all credit cards in the world are carried in the United States, over 50 percent of fraudulent charges occur here. To counteract this reality, the rules were changed in an effort to substantially reduce the occurrences of credit card fraud.

“EMV” stands for “Europay, Mastercard & Visa”. It is the global standard for chip-based Debit and Credit Card transactions. With an EMV compliant credit card transaction, the customer will insert the end of their chipped credit card into the device. While the card is inserted, the customer will enter either a PIN or digitally sign for the transaction. With this method, the credit card number and expiration date are not transmitted on the network and the cardholder has to be present to authorize the transaction.

Under the new rules, if you do not have an “EMV ready” credit card device, and a fraudulent transaction is made with an EMV credit card, you may be held responsible for those charges.

AutoFluent Software makes it easy for you to avoid this costly problem with our partnership with ChargeItPro. ChargeItPro offers a seamless integration with your AutoFluent software, and enables you to choose from several different EMV ready devices: http://info.chargeitpro.com/AutoFluent

When invoicing a customer, your cashier will get on-screen prompts to insert the credit card as well as approved or declined information for the credit card. The authorization information will print on the invoice copy, and a report showing each approved credit and debit transaction is included with your Daily Report.

Each day that passes, your older, unsecure credit card machine could become increasingly popular for criminals, who seek out easy targets. For more information about adding the ChargeItPro integration to your AutoFluent system, contact AutoFluent today.
