Sell tires? Avoid a Million Dollar Fine!

Throughout recent years, one of the most important and overlooked things we’ve noticed from tire sellers is the lack of DOT registration. Did you know that all tire sellers are federally required by law to register the Tire Identification Number (TIN) of each tire they sell? This law was enacted in 2015 by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Department of Transportation (DOT). You can click here to view this on the Federal Register website. 

If a Manufacturer puts a recall on any specific batch of tires, you’ll know immediately. This allows you to reach out to your customers and have them come back into your shop immediately for replacement - not to mention building your customers’ trust and loyalty. You are not only in a money-making business, you’re in the business of keeping people safe on the road.

The previous maximum liability was up to $700,000.

Individual violations: $22,723

Maximum: $113.6 million
