QuickBooks Desktop is Discontinuing in May: What Do I Do?

Intuit has announced that they are discontinuing support for the desktop versions of their QuickBooks on May 31, 2023.  This means that if you are still using QuickBooks Desktop, you will need to hurry and migrate your QuickBooks database to QuickBooks Online, which has a subscription fee.  If you do not do this, after May 31, 2023:

  • You will not be able to use the Payroll Service

  • You will not be able to use Online Banking

  • Live Support will no longer be available to you.

  • Other QuickBooks Desktop services will be discontinued.

  • Critical security updates will no longer be available.

Because it is very difficult to support discontinued products, AutoFluent’s support of QuickBooks Desktop will be very limited, and eventually discontinued.

QuickBooks offers detailed instructions here on how to make the transition, and they say they offer unlimited customer support to help you through the change. That being said, it is recommended that you make the transition sooner rather than later, because their support staff will be very busy in May helping people go online.

As the internet becomes a bigger part of our lives and infrastructure, more and more software companies (including TABS) are moving to online versions of their products.  There are several benefits to this, of course.  Online products can be accessed from essentially anywhere, with a variety of different devices. There will be no more mailing CD’s or flash drives with your QuickBooks database to your accountant, and backups are usually provided by the software vendor. Don’t forget to turn on limited backups in your QuickBooks Online here
